AT&T Global Wi-Fi App Reviews

Useless

Typical of a company who really only cares about making money and the US market. Lousy customer service and I dont know if its the app or their network handoffs but this is useless. Ive lived and worked all over the world and the US wireless service continues to rank among the worst.

Worst app ever

This app never works. This is extremely frustrating, as I paid for international service through AT&T and was told I could use this app for wifi. Ive been in Australia for 2 weeks and havent been able to get this app working even after reading all instructions and turning off iMessage. This app is garbage. When I return to the states I intend to revisit that AT&T store to let them know they need to stop advertising an app seemingly no one can make use of. Ridiculous and unacceptable.

Zero stars app

Just uninstalled. Never worked abroad or locally. Had a fight with at&t to return money charged in Europe for data to use this app to find wifi spots. The good think I won and got money back.

Really???!!!

Well, yes… I will agree with all those single star reviews. This app is ridiculous and AT&Ts international service is ridiculous. Next time I come to Europe Im going to get a local Sim card. Within three days of arriving The data manager app tells me Ive used up the data allowed on my plan, even though I really only been using the phone on Wi-Fi in my hotel. I call the international support number and they tell me I havent used a thing. Who is right? So should I buy the next plan up only to discover I really didnt need to? Finding a hotspot is ridiculous. I open the app and get an empty map grid populated with blue and green pins. I wait and wait and wait, watching my battery life slip away, no map fills in and I get a message saying I need Wi-Fi. Seriously??!!.

As worthless as teats on a bull

I also read the horrid reviews beforehand. I just wish Id listened to them and not wasted my money. Live and learn. Stick to Wifi wherever you can find it!

Worthless

App is garbage. Dont get a passport plan for access to these hotspots. Your better off getting a gold passport for the 800mb of roaming data vs relaying on these hotspots

When you cant connect in Tokyo...

I am in Tokyo. AT&T global wifi spots everywhere. Connects occasionally, but none of the WIFI spots connect to the internet. Garbage...

AT&T Global Wi-Fi is worthless- just get a local SIM card/plan instead

Bought an AT&T plan to cover 7 weeks in/around Auckland, NZ where the app claims there are many many Global Wi-Fi hotspots. Have NEVER been able to get any of them to work- and yes, I am using the app correctly. AT&T "support" has been useless. The app also interferes with connecting to non-Global Wi-Fi hotspots (I.e., a public library wi-fi)- such connections would activate but then any attempt to navigate just caused sites to endlessly try to load while sucking data fruitlessly away.

GARBAGE!!!

Do not rely on this or the att passport plan to get you around in any city. I went to Amsterdam, Paris, London, and Dublin. All wifi is locked even if it says its att global wifi. Total crap.

Useless and blocks wi-fi

Tried using in Brazil, at major airports, malls, hotels. Yes, I bought the Passport plan for the month. This app could not connect me to a single Wi-Fi hotspot, anywhere. And, yes, I did register the apps profile with my phone. Worse yet, the app blocked the web-popups (i.e. Web page login screens) for all WiFi sites so that I couldnt even use hotel and airport free wi-fi. Luckily I finally figured out this app was the reason, and after uninstalling it I got my standard iPhone functionality back. The "map" is also completely useless - you have to already have a data connection to use it, even though I already downloaded the offline database! How can I use this app to find wifi if I am not already on WiFi?!?!?! Completely and utterly useless app. Worse yet, it borks the WiFi logon capability of the iPhone until it is uninstalled.

Had never worked

Ive used Passport twice for travel - Australia and then Vietnam and Cambodia. His package provided no value. I could make calls from Australia at a reduced rate but not buying the package would have been cheaper. I couldnt make any call from the other countries nor could I get texts to send out (I could receive). There were no hot spots, either. I dont plan to bother to purchase it unless I maybe deal with Canada or some parts of Europe as its just ineffective.

Wont even install

Called Tech Support. This particular agent said shed had 4 calls on the same issue "today". She also said not to worry. The App is just a map showing hotspots and you can look for hotspots the normal way withOUT the app. Which is cool bc then I wont be unnecessarily using data (for an app which other users have pretty much universally panned anyhow).

Useless in Istanbul, Turkey

Though Istanbul is part of the wifi network, this app could not find any, and continually told me that I should have an Internet connection, despite the fact that I downloaded the app over a cellular Internet connection when I arrived in Istanbul.

Absolute Garage

horrible waste of money and time. hotspots never connected even in major cities. I have never tried in another country - only china. was in desperate measures and used up my limited data on the roaming plan to get a hotel. this is not to be trusted. if you are relying on this you will be in trouble. absolute crap - I wasted 2 hours on chat with support to no avail. the networks will never connect. I wish I had taken the time to get an unlocked phone prior to arrival. never again. I will b switching my plan upon return home b/c I am so angry with this service.

Forced to download

I bought an international plan and received a text every 5 minutes until I finally downloaded this app. Sounds like its a waste of space.

Worked well for me

Not easy to operate this app, but it works well when used correctly. I came back from a trip in Japan where the app worked for me in multiple cities. You should check the supported countries first, only 18 countries are currently included in the 300mb package. You should install the app and a profile in advance. Then when traveling open the app, check out the supported wifi networks listed in it and through the settings app connect to one of them. No credentials are required. AT&T can surely make a simpler to operate app, therefore only 4 stars.

Never works

This app is a waist of time, not only are there not many supported wifi connection, when there is connecting to them is challenging/time consuming or never works. Dont waist your cellular data by running the app. You would think that support would put a little work into the app considering all the horrible reviews. Need a negative rating system as one star is more then the app deserves.

Useless

What a waste of money getting the intl plan where you need this. Its utterly useless!

Works fine

I have been using the app for an entire week throughout Japan with no issues. People complaining about the app not working without Internet are clueless, it auto login to supported spots and you can also find spots using the map, the map itself doesnt display without data which is just logical, what did they expect? That a map of the entire world be stored as part of the app?

Not worth the effort.

Im traveling in Prague and figured this would come in handy. Havent been able to connect to any hotspot since I got here. A lot of places have free wifi, so the benefit of this app (as well as spending the extra $30 for the service) is really nearly zero.
